Serengetee

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Serengetee is an American startup clothing brand founded on February 17, 2012 by a group of college friends. The company incorporates global fabrics patterns into their products while giving back to corresponding grassroot causes. Every fabric is teamed up with a cause located in the same region the fabric was acquired from.

History[edit]

Jeff Steitz, Ryan Westberg and Nathan Holterman founders of Serengetee, got the idea to create the pocket T-shirt company after they completed a Semester at Sea in 2012 where they traveled the globe. While studying abroad, they began visiting different markets in Asia, Africa and Central America and began collecting fabrics from the local markets they visited. They had zero fashion experience, but felt strongly about using the fabric they purchased to positively affect communities around the world. They became the first brand centered around the fabric purchased which helps support artisans and the ancient traditions of fabric making in over 25 different countries.[1]

In the first year Serengetee made $140,000 in revenue.[2] As of May 2015, the company collected over $100,000 in donations as well as more than $50,000 in fabrics bought. The marketing efforts of the company come from social media sites and sales over the internet.[2]

All products are handcrafted in Los Angeles by a team of "Sew Pros" via a 10-step process. Every pocket sewn on a tee is one-of-a-kind and the company gives 10 percent of profits made from the fabric product to communities where the fabric comes. The proceeds help support a cause from that region.

Mission[edit]

To connect people to the globe through fabric while giving back to the communities that inspire and create our designs.[3]

Slogan[edit]

Wear the World, Change the World.

Celebrity Partnerships[edit]

Every purchase made from Posey's Paradise line had 15 percent of its proceeds donated to the LLS. In August 2014, Posey announced his second installment in the Serengetee line called Posey's Paradise 2.0 where again part of the proceeds went to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

Jimmy Tatro, American actor, comedian, writer and YouTube personality partnered with Serengetee in April and then again in August 2013 with his Teal Tiger Print collection and Turnt Up Totem line of pocket tees. From Tatro's line, 13 percent of all sales were donated first to All Hands Volunteers in the April launch and then to the Hurricane Sandy Relief via All Hands Volunteers in the August edition.
