Sergio Michel

Sergio Michel (born April 15, 1979), is a national level American rock artist signed to Cold War Relic records, songwriter and network TV actor. He released a 19 song double album named Tropical Depression on February 26th, 2021. The first single, Subhuman premiered as a music video on Brave Words on February 19th, 2021. [1]

Michel's style of guitar playing first came to mainstream attention with his 2004 breakthrough single "Hey Eyes" and 2013 album release "Marry Me Cindy". He was active in the New York music scene for over a decade before becoming a national level artist [2]; at which point he operated out of Hollywood, CA's Sunset Strip in 2015. From 2015-2023, Michel headlined landmark venues The Whisky A Go Go, The Rainbow Bar & Grill, The Roxy & The Viper Room regularly. [3]


In 2020, Michel embarked on a national tour with Soulfly and Toxic Holocaust, [4] & was added to the Graham Bonnet tour of Spain. [5]
Career

Sergio Michel released a 19 song double album named Tropical Depression on February 26th, 2021 on Cold War Relic records. Michel sang and played guitar, bass & synthesizers on all tracks; also mixing and mastering the entire release. Drums were handled by Rob Tucker of Jason Newstead's Chop House Band, tracking drums at Echo Beach Studios in Jupiter, FL. [6] The live album release party was held at The Kelsey Theater in Palm Beach, FL on March 4th 2021.[7]
Tropical Depression's presentation and Michel's performance received favorable reviews. Uncivil Revolt writes, "With Eddie Van Halen now gone, the question is who has the ability to carry the torch he helped lit for guitar players? He was a talent like no other and he will be sorely missed. I do not know if anyone can take his place, but I am sure there will be some who can come close. Players like Sergio Michel. " [8]
Earlier in 2020, Sergio Michel embarked on a national tour with Soulfly and Toxic Holocaust. In 2019, Michel released re-recorded versions of his 2004 single "Hey Eyes", 2007 album “Cry Out” and 2010 album “Uplifting Depressing Music”. His 2013 release "Marry Me, Cindy" went viral [11] with the single "I Close My Eyes" reaching over 198,000 viral plays and was verified as trending. The second single 'Bow Down', was verified as trending ten times.[12]
Michel started performing as a professional guitarist in 2001.

Early Life
Michel was born in Hoboken, New Jersey to AAA Baseball Player Sergio Augusto Michel and attorney Margarita Michel-Gaston. He attended public grammar school in West New York, NJ & Saint Augustine Catholic School in Union City, NJ. Michel attended public High School in West New York, NJ. At that time, he began playing guitar in Junior year of High School. He taught himself how to play guitar by ear after taking one lesson with a neighbor and feeling unsatisfied. His first guitar was a red Fender Squire Stratocaster. He quickly upgraded to a Lake Placid blue Standard Stratocaster. While attending Bergen Community College for Communications/Computer Science, Michel hosted a talk radio show, Mayhem in The AM on 90.3 FM broadcasting from Ramapo College in New Jersey and attended trade school in New York City for his degree in Audio Engineering,He is a graduate of Institute of Audio Research. In the late 1990s through 2004, Michel fronted two well known regional groups in the New York metal scene and started his solo career at the end of that time span.
