Service Coordination

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Service Coordination is an advocacy agency supporting adults and children with developmental disabilities to get the services that allow them to fulfill their goals in life. In 2006, Service Coordination was spun off by The Arc of Frederick County, in order to form a separate non-profit agency. The agency works with people with developmental disabilities who are receiving services funded by the Maryland State Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA), and people who are applying for DDA services. Each individual who is served by Service Coordination is referred to the agency by DDA.

Mission[edit]

The mission of Service Coordination is to assist individuals with developmental disabilities and other groups needing assistance in determining and meeting their needs in ways they prefer. The organization works to do this by assisting individuals to become active members of their communities with equal rights and responsibilities. Service Coordination helps people develop and obtain high quality supports and services that are the least intrusive to meet their desires and needs and support their personal goals. Service Coordination believes that each person's values, dignity, happiness, and rights must be respected.[1]

Services[edit]

Service Coordination is an organization that designs plans for individuals with developmental disabilities based on the hopes and dreams of these individuals. Service Coordination provides services to individuals of all ages with the following disabilities: AIDS, intellectual disability, mental disorder, autism, cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, multiple sclerosis, blindness/severe visual impairment, deafness/severe hearing impairment, behavioral problems, epilepsy/seizure disorder, head injury, orthopedic impairment, specific learning disability, speech/language impairment, spina bifida, spinal cord injury, chemical dependency, cystic fibrosis, other neurological impairment, and other undetermined disabilities.[2]

To receive services from Service Coordination, an individual must be referred to Service Coordination by DDA.

Community connections[edit]

Following the mission of The Arc of Frederick County, Service Coordination works to respond to the needs of children with developmental disabilities, their families, and the communities in which they live.

Service Coordinators work with area businesses and job coaches to locate and create meaningful employment opportunities for students and adults based on their individual talents and preferences.

Service Coordination works closely with community agencies to see that individuals are making community connections. Service Coordinators also work with the public schools to help children and their families navigate through the system.[3]

Funding[edit]
