Plot[edit]

Beef Tobin lives in Alaska with his four children, Judy, Wolf, Ham, and Moon, as well as Wolf's fiancé Honeybee. Beef suggests hosting Wolf and Honeybee's wedding on the family boat, but Judy is greatly opposed to the idea. Then, Beef wants to take Judy on his boat for her sweet sixteen. Judy wakes up happy and speaks to her imaginary friend Alanis Morissette about getting her new job at the mall, where her crush Crispin works. An angry moose gets in, which destroys the decorations for Judy's party, but the moose escapes and runs into the woods, taking with it the items left by Beef's wife, who left him.

Beef wants to take Judy to the mall for her birthday present, but the siblings and Honeybee don't want him to know that Judy got a job there, so as Beef nears the store, he falls in love with Judy's new boss, who then tells Beef about Judy's new job, which depresses him so much that he sits down in the out-of-order elevator. Beef becomes depressed about the whole thing as they drive to the boat. At the party, Wolf mentions his desire to move out of the house with his fiancé and live in the cabin in their backyard, Beef upset with the changes about to happen in his life storms out and the kids split up to find him. Ham sets out two flares, which Beef sees, thinking they are signals from his ex-wife Kathleen that she will come back soon.

Beef tells Judy to leave him to die, but Judy climbs down into the chasm and tells Beef that Kathleen left on purpose, but the kids and Honeybee still love him. The other kids find him, but all fall into the chasm when the moose scares them. Moon sneaks up on them and chases the moose off. Beef comes around and says he is accepting of everything that is changing.

Production[edit]

As well as the main cast appearing in the episode, Alanis Morissette appears as herself, Judy's imaginary friend, in the episode, and Julio Torres makes a short guest star appearance as Crispin Cienfuegos, Judy's crush at the mall who works at a smoothie shop. In addition, Judith Shelton gets guest star credit as Londra Pennypacker, Judy's boss at the mall.[3] "Sexi Moose Adventure" was released on January 3, 2021, as the series premiere of The Great North.[4]

Reception[edit]

Ready Steady Cut said that the episode "lives up to its title" and that The Great North "easily beds in its hyper-specific characters and setting, and it’s easy to imagine the show quickly becoming a regular highlight among the animated network sitcom crowd."[5] Decider compared the show to Central Park and Bob's Burgers, and not just because all three shows were produced by Loren Bouchard.[6] A review on The Review Geek called the jokes in the episode some of the "funnier segments" of Fox animated series and commented that the episode was an exciting start to a very "promising animated prospect going forward."[7] Bleeding Cool noted that it might take time for the show to "truly seek out the placement of characters within the world they've developed," but that "Sexi Moose Adventure" was a good episode nonetheless.[8]
