Abdul Shakoor Pathan (Urdu: عبدالشکور پٹھان – Abduš-šakūr Pathān, born 1954) is a Dubai-based Pakistani author, columnist, and blogger who writes in Urdu. He worked in different Gulf Countries until he retired in 2018 and has been a full-time writer since. He has authored three well-received books[1] and contributed a number of articles and columns to Urdu newspapers, magazines, and websites, such as Aawaza[2], Alifyar[3], Girdopesh[4], Humsub[5], Jang[6], Mukaalma[7], Taemeernews[8], and several others.
Early life and education
Shakoor Pathan was born to a working-class family that, like millions of other Muslims, had to flee from India and take refuge in the newly formed Pakistan, their land of promise, in 1947. In the aftermath of Partition, his parents, Abdul Ghafoor Pathan and Zulekha Begum, migrated from their native place Uran, which is in the Konkan region of Maharashtra.
Shakoor grew up in Karachi and graduated from Government College of Commerce & Economics in 1974[9]. In 1975 he left for Bahrain to join a bank.[10]

میرے شہر والے (Meray Shahar Waalay)
Meray Shahar Waalay is his first book, published in 2016. It is a collection of 57 essays on social groups and notable people of Karachi, especially those who built and shaped the city or made a difference in any positive way. Pathan chose his subjects from different walks of life, from academia to politics and everything in between. Thus the book is an anthology of his essays on people who defined and represented the social and cultural life of Karachi. Ameen Akbar, a critic, comments that those who want to know Karachi of the 1970s and 1980s should read this book.[11][circular reference] Similarly, Nasreen Ghori comments that the book is a political, social, and cultural history of Karachi.[12]
بہتی ہے گنگا جہاں (Bahti Hai Ganga JahaaN)
Bahti Hai Ganga JahaaN is a travelogue published in 2019. The author travelled to India in 1982 and published his memoir of the journey after about four decades. Unlike many other works of travel literature written in Urdu, Shakoor Pathan abstains from teaching history and geography of the places he visited, but communicates his own experiences in lucid Urdu prose. Yunus Agaskar, formerly a professor of Urdu at the University of Bombay, observes that it is a story of love, compassion, and kinship, which overwhelms its readers.
سب جانے پہچانے ہیں (Sab Jaane Pehchaane Hain)
Sab Jaane Pehchaane Hain is a collection of literary biosketches of 26 famous people, who the author admires or whose influences have in some ways or other shaped his personality in his formative years. The list includes Dilip Kumar, Muhammad Ali, Lata Mangeshkar, Imran Khan, Faiz Ahmad Faiz, and Abadi Bano Begum. About this book, Prof. Rais Ahmed Samdani remarks that the author, in his graciously lyrical prose, has portrayed his characters so vividly that readers while reading could visualize them as part of a film reel.[13]
