Shama Junejo (Urdu: شمع جونیجو; born 28 August 1971) is a Pakistani journalist, academic political analyst and former television actress.
Shama initially became famous for her work for the television program Aroosa and made her TV debut in 1993. Shama's career on television was short-lived as she retired soon after getting married.
Shama then worked extensively on journalism during the 2010s and later began appearing regularly on political talk shows.
Her efforts in journalism were recognised as she was awarded the Tamghe-e-Imtiaz for her work in the field of journalism.[1]
Career & Education[edit]
Shama was born and raised in Kotri, Sindh.[2]
She attended the University of Sindh in 1991 and began her career as a newscaster for Radio Pakistan from 1991 to 1993. She also began an an acting career for the Pakistan Television Corporation appearing as Arifa in the hit TV show, Aroosa.
She studied Law at the University of London, in the early 2010s and then pursued a Master's in Public Diplomacy from SOAS. She pursued a PhD from the University of Leicester specialising in Pakistani civil-military relations.[3]
She is a vocal critic of Imran Khan and frequently appears in talk shows and news programmes which has made her a controversial figure among Khan's supporters. She is also close friends with Khan's ex-wife, Reham Khan.[4]
She writes noteworthy columns and her efforts in journalism were recognised when she was awarded Pakistani civilian honours in 2023.[5] [1]
Personal life[edit]
Shama married her husband, Jamshed, in 1993. She lives in London where she and her husband have two sons and one daughter.[2]
