Shane McNamara (born December 21, 1970) is an Australian actor, singer and dancer who is best known for 'Rat in a Hat' in Bananas in Pyjamas ever since 2003 (in both the original live-action series, since 2003 and CGI animated series, 2005–2007) and 'Miss Chamomile' in St. Bear’s Town and St. Bear's Dolls Hospital ever since 2004. He is also best known for his many appearances in the recurring role of Gino Esposito in the Australian soap opera Neighbours and musical spinoff Ramsey Street High School. Both Rat in a Hat and Miss Chamomile are part of the franchise of The Wiggles World Gang, Bananas in Pyjamas and St. Bear's Dolls Hospital ever since 2003.
Biography
Shane Patrick Joseph Bernadette McNamara III was born on December 21, 1970 in Melbourne, Australia.
He is uncredited as Penny’s Father in Sesame Street: Fiesta (1997).
Shane's acting career began without informing any of his family or friends, and he faked a career in England while following his dreams in Australia to become an actor in his film debut “Buck and Lucy” (1986). His career in acting, dancing and singing meant that a promising career as a Mechanical Engineer with Rolls Royce ended; however, he intended to return to engineering if his acting career ever ended, but he never returned to engineering and continued his acting, dancing and singing career.
In 1999, he spends his spare time enjoying a friendly game of rugby or cricket with his musical partner Sally Sandilands and is also an avid stamp collector with a collection of over 10,000 stamps of hers that he gives her.
Both Shane and Sally are not allergic to cats. They preferred to tame stray cats and kittens, and she eventually owned cats.
On December 1, 2004, Sally and Shane named her newborn kitten after Sally’s favorite holiday, Christmas.
Neighbours, 2001-2007; 2024–present
Neighbours star: Another one to appear on Ramsay Street, Shane McNamara starred as salon owner Gino Esposito immediately after Mary Poppins and before Bananas in Pyjamas and St. Bear’s Dolls Hospital. He continues playing as Rat in the Hat and Miss Chamomile ever since June 14, 2003, alongside his return as Gino.
