Shane R. Chapman (born March 19, 1973) is a United States Army soldier who served as the 194th Armored Brigade Command Sergeant Major from April 26, 2017 to May 30, 2019.[1] He is most notably known for his work in the office of Chief of Staff of the Army on the Soldier for Life program.[2]
Early life and education
A native of Xenia, Ohio, Chapman entered the United States Army as a 19K (Armor Crewman) in 1990. He enlisted at the age of 17 after graduating high school.[3] He attended Basic Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Knox, Kentucky. His civilian education includes a Bachelor of Arts degree in management from American Military University and a Master of Arts in organizational leadership from Brandman University.
Military career
Chapman's military education includes Basic Noncommissioned Officer's Course, the Abrams Master Gunner Course, the Tank Commander's Course, the Advanced Noncommissioned Officer's Course, Senior Leader's Course, the Sergeants Major Academy, and the Command Sergeants Major Course. He has served in the 1st Armored Division, and the 3rd and 4th Infantry Divisions.
Chapman is decorated with the Bronze Star Medal for his leadership during the Battle of Baghdad. Later, he was selected as the Soldier For Life Sergeant Major in 2012. The Soldier for Life program was founded by Chapman in order to facilitate a favorable transition into civilian life for retiring soldiers. The Soldier for Life program connects Army, government, and non-government organizations in order to influence policies, programs, and services that support soldiers, veterans, and families.[4]
Personal life
Chapman is a member of the Distinguished Sergeant Audie Murphy Club, a spur holder in the Order of the Spur, and a recipient of a Bronze Order of Saint George.[5]
