Shararam (Shararam in the Land of Smeshariks) is a browser-based (network) children's multiplayer online computer game based on flash animation, based on the Internet portal of the same name. Developed by LLC New Media[1] with the support of the telecom operator MegaFon in 2007-2008 and other sponsors.
The game was officially released on January 14, 2009. Since that time and to this day, the game has been operating on the Flash platform, and since January 12, 2021, it has become available on the Unity engine.
According to the company's official data, the maximum simultaneous online in Shararama varies from 1,000 to 3,420 players (2020). According to the official data of the company, relevant for 2018, the combined attendance of the portal, located on two domains, is 80-115 thousand unique visitors per day.
Over the ten years[2] of Shararam's existence, more than 300 quests, about 100 mini-games have been released, and over 100 locations have been drawn. More than 70 million people have been registered.[3]
From 2012 to 2017, there was an English-language version of the game RolyPolyLand, but it was not very popular, so it was closed.[4]
There was also an unofficial server Shararam XLand, developed by Cloudflare Inc and launched in 2019 and closed in 2020 by court order,[5] but later opened in 2021, but closed in the same year for redrawing and transferring the game to Unity. In 2022, the project was finally closed.[6] It used the Flash and Unity engines.
History[edit]
In the summer of 2008, it became known about the beginning of the beta test of the game Shararam in the Land of Smeshariks - a project based on flash animation, where everyone could become a Smesharik, chat, make friends and explore the world. Active work on the creation of this project began several years earlier.
On December 28, 2008, the beta testing of the project is completed and it becomes available for entry to the owners of the SmeshCard, and since January 14, 2009 - for everyone. On November 21, 2016, the Shararam launcher became available for download on computers running Windows, and from February 2, 2021 — macOS.
In 2010, Shararam was awarded the national (public) Golden Bear Award in the nomination "Internet Project of the Year".[7]
On December 3, 2020, Shararam became the laureate of the Runet Prize.[8]
