Sharmin Rahman Rauma (born 11 June 1977) also known as Sharmin Rauma or Rauma Rahman is a Bangladeshi Journalist and TV presenter.[1] She has been involved in various works including journalism, news & programme production, presentation, script writing, reporting, video editing.

Sharmin Rauma completed her Master of Arts in English from National University of Bangladesh in 2000.

Personal and early life[edit]

Sharmin Rauma was born in Dhaka on 11 June 1977. Her father A.K.M. Bazlur Rahman was a businessman and her mother Sajeda Rahman was a housewife.[1] During her school years, sharmin Rauma was a child artist of Bangladesh Television, the state-run media and took part in many porgrammes such as; 'Alor Pothey', 'Ongkur', 'Kisholoy', 'Notun Kuri', etc. Later, she became an enlisted artist for the state-run TV and Radio in 90's.

Career[edit]

Sharmin Rauma is currently playing the role of the presenter and series producer of BBC World Service's NCA programme 'BBC Probaho',[2][3] a news and current affairs TV show in Bangladesh.[4] In 2014, she covered World Cup Football for BBC Bangla Radio and later that year, she joined the BBC Bangla team in Bangladesh and became a presenter of the TV talk show—BBC Bangladesh Sanglap.[5] She also played the role of producer, presenter and reporter for BBC Bengali Radio and online.

Prior to joining the BBC, Rauma had already been a News Presenter of ATN Bangla, where she worked from 2003 to 2009 and 2011 to 2014. She started her career with News presentation in 2002 as well as a host for the compiled weekly news programme "GOTO SHAAT DIN" on Channel i. Rauma had also been the host of 'Shubho Shondhya', an audience feedback programme on CHANNEL i. She also hosted Musical Entertainment Show 'Music Moment' on BANGLA VISION. In 2009, She moved to London to work as a News Producer & Presenter of BANGLA TV UK. In 2011, she started working for a national English daily 'The Independent' as a sub-editor. Later, she started working as a freelance News Presenter for the BBC's Bengali section Radio in Bangladesh in 2013.

Rauma is also a versatile singer, who has received training in both Indian classical and western classical music. She completed a five-year course in Nazrul Sangeet and Classical music at Bulbul Academy of Fine Arts (BAFA).[1] Rauma also took lessons at the Dhaka International Music School, where she learnt to play the piano alongside western classical vocal music. Rauma's first album, titled Swapner Diganta Chhuye,[6] under the label of G-Series, was released in 2006. Her second solo album Swapnajatra was released in 2009. The album, which was composed prominent composer Manam Ahmed.[6] She worked in multiple mixed albums with other Bangladeshi singers too.
