Siddhant Sarang

Siddhant Sarang is an Indian environmental activist[1] and a member of YOUNGO, a youth constituency under United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.[2] He often writes opinion columns for media in India and abroad on environment and climate change.[3] His activism began when he faced a deadly flood in 2008 in his home state Bihar. At the age of 14, he started an awareness organization in his school with classmates and friends, and later printed monthly magazines on nature.[4] He also tried his hands in documentary filmmaking. His works for grassroot awareness won him UK's prestigious Diana Award in 2019.[5][6][7]

Later in 2019, he represented India's position on climate change among commonwealth nations in an international summit in London, on the scholarship of Queen's Commonwealth Trust[8] and supported by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, United Kingdom. He has graduated from Satyawati College, University of Delhi. With a team of software engineers, he currently developing an artificial intelligence based mobile application, having the capabilities of translating technical, scientific, and sensitive information around environment and climate change in 22 regional Indian languages.[9] He has keen interest to make this information available to tier 2 and tier 3 cities of India, to prepare citizens better from global warming. He has also prepared a podcast 'Dharti Maiya' in Bhojpuri, one of a regional language of Bihar.[10] During COVID, Canada's state broadcaster CBC Canada lauded his efforts to save citizens through the use of social media.[11][12]
