The Sir Peter Blake Regatta is an annual dinghy regatta hosted by Torbay Sailing Club in Auckland, New Zealand. It is held as a memorial regatta in celebration of New Zealand yachtsman Sir Peter Blake, who was shot and killed while on an environmental exploration trip in South America.
The regatta is unofficially known as the largest centreboard regatta in the southern hemisphere, with over 450 boats entered in the 2016 edition.[1] The inaugural event took place in December 2002, a year after Blake was killed.[2]
Every year, the Sir Peter Blake Memorial trophy is awarded to the overall winner of the regatta. Each year, in honour of Blake, this trophy has become a major milestone for many aspiring top sailors. Previous notable winners include Peter Burling, Sam Meech and Jo Aleh.[3]
