Sloan Science in Film Awards
The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation awards grants to films at various stages of development that tackle science and technology themes and characters.[1][2][3] The Foundation focuses on awarding films that focus on science or technology as a theme, or depict a scientist, engineer, or mathematician as a major character. The juries that determine the awardees are comprised of film and science industry professionals.[4][5]
The Sloan Foundation is an American philanthropic nonprofit organization. It was established in 1934 by Alfred P. Sloan Jr., then-president and chief executive officer of General Motors.[6][7][8][9] In addition to funding film, television, and radio productions through the mission for Public Understanding,[10][11][12] the Sloan Foundation supports basic scientific research, which lies at the core of the Foundation's mission.[13]
The Museum of the Moving Image hosts the only comprehensive database of these 750+ media projects and their makers dating back to 1995. The database is sortable by award, granting institution, and scientific subject matter.[1]
