On June 9, 2022, a mass shooting occurred at Columbia Machine Inc., a manufacturing plant in the town of Smithsburg, Washington County, Maryland in the United States. The shooting left three dead and three others injured. The accused, Joe Louis Esquivel (aged 23, from Hedgesville, West Virginia), is believed to have used a semi-automatic pistol. The injured included a state trooper and Esquivel.[1][2] He was charged with three counts each of first-degree and second-degree murder. Other charges filed against him included assault, attempted murder, reckless endangerment, loaded handgun in vehicle and loaded handgun on person.[3]
