Socialist Revolution Party was formed by the ex-chairman of the Workers' Party of Turkey Mehmet Ali Aybar who left the party in 1971 and intellectuals supporting democratic socialism in 1975. SRP didn't achieve the success that the Workers' Party of Turkey achieved in the 1965 and 1969 general elections but the Workers' Party of Turkey under Behice Boran who led to Aybar's departure from the party, didn't achieve any success in retaliation to the 1971 Turkish military memorandum with losing more votes. SRP was dissolved after the 1980 Turkish coup d'état
