Sofya Andreyevna Arzhakovskaya (born Софья Андреевна Аржаковская; professionally known as Sofya Skya; b. on August 12, 1987 in St. Petersburg) is a Hollywood and Russian actress, Russian ballet dancer, acting coach, founder of Real Art Studio (immersive creative space) and RAS Acting School.

Early life

Skya was born on August 12, 1987 in St. Petersburg (former Leningrad), Russian SFSR, Soviet Union. Her grandmother, Emma Shchetinina was a famous harpist and teacher while her grandfather, Mark Fliderman was a concertmaster of The State Academic Symphony Orchestra of Russia "Evgeny Svetlanov", an associate of Mstislav Rostropovich, Honored Artist of the RSFSR.

Skya began attending dance classes at a young age and when she turned nine, she got enrolled into the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet. At the age of twelve she moved to Ufa for further training in ballet. She graduated from The Bashkir Choreographic College named after Rudolf Nureyev. As a principal dancer Skya performed solo parties in such ballets as Swan Lake, La Bayadère, Snow White, La Esmeralda, Raymonda at the Bashkortostan State Opera and Ballet Theatre.

She became the winner of numerous beauty contests until 2005. In 2005 she opened the third Vienna Opera Ball charity event in Moscow and won the "Russian Grace" contest.

Career

In 2007, she moved to Hollywood, California to pursue a career in acting. Skya then took acting classes and completed courses with professional acting coaches such as Larry Moss (acting coach), Joanne Baron, and Lisa Melillo. She completed a course with Kelly Reiter, improving her English and completely getting rid of the accent. She also improved skills with famous Hollywood coach Michelle Danner in Los Angeles Acting School, and took vocal training by Vida Simon.

In 2008, Skya already appeared as a desperate mother in the Courageous Heart of Irena Sendler directed by John Kent Harrison. In 2009 she got first leading role in Ligeia (another name is The Tomb),[1] film based on the novel of the same name by Edgar Allan Poe, starring Wes Bentley and Eric Roberts.

Following her appearances in those films, she was invited to play a role in Shadows in Paradise alongside Mark Dacascos and in Limelight series. In 2010 she also appeared in Russian comedy Klub Schast'ya, which brought her fame in Russia.

In a 2012 interview with Mainline Media News, she said that while Darren Aronofsky's Black Swan was on her radar, she was denied the role because of her tallness.

In 2013 she played the lead role in the film Assassins Run (another name is White Swan)[2] directed by Robert Crombie - Russian ballerina Maya,[3] alongside Christian Slater[4][5] and Cole Hauser. In June 2013, Skya led the opening ceremony of the 35th Moscow International Film Festival.

In 2014 she appeared in Coca Cola commercial as a ballerina.

She also appeared in American thriller My Stepdaughter, drama Opus of an Angel directed by Ali Zamani, horror Coven, thriller Welcome to Curiosity.

In 2019 she starred in the historical drama film Once There Was a War alongside Ben Cross.[6] The movie is about the 14 day war between Serbia and Bulgaria in 1885, directed by famous Bulgarian director Anri Kulev. Skya played Russian physician, countess Anastasia Golovina.

Another Activities

In 2013 Skya performed a dance of tsaritsa Syuyumbike at the opening ceremony of the XXVII Summer Universiade in Kazan.[7] She supports charity events such as Meet For Charity,[8] Baby Love Ball by Naked Heart Foundation of Natalia Vodyanova and others.

In 2019, Skya launched Real Art Studio in Moscow, an immersive creative space for actors and specialists of cinema industry to improve their skills. In 2020 she started her acting courses for aspiring actors.

Personal life

Besides acting, Skya likes photography, horse riding, diving and billiards.,[9] Baby Love Ball by Naked Heart Foundation of Natalia Vodyanova and others. In 2006, she married and has a son, Sergey (born on 10 November 2015).
