Solar Mofussil Bus Terminus commonly called as Solar Bus Stand is one of the major bus stations in the city of Erode in Tamil Nadu, India. This bus station caters as the mofussil bus terminus for inter-city bus services connecting the southern and central districts of Tamil Nadu. Constructed at an area of around 20 acres, this bus station is one of the largest five bus terminals in Tamil Nadu.[1]
History
Solar Bus Stand was proposed since 1990s and it was planned as a part of Erode Transport Plan-1996 and the Comprehensive Mobility plans. This bus stand project is a part of the larger traffic decongestion plan, primarily aiming to reduce congestion in the Central Bus Station and in the core city areas by removing the mofussil buses bound to southern and central part of the state from the city roads. This bus stand construction has been started in 2022, inaugurated in November 2025 and put to commercial operations since December 2025.[2]
Facilities
This transit facility established as one of the major infrastructure project has been constructed in a huge land area of around 20 acres. Constructed at a cost of Rupees seventy five crores, it has 63 bus bays for mofussil buses that are linearly connected and around 134 shops and a two-wheeler parking facility with a capacity to park around 900 vehicles.[3]
Erode Municipal Corporation also proposed to rope in private players for the operation and maintenance of this bus terminal.[4]
Operations
This bus terminal is utilized by a total of 158 buses catering to the Southern and Central districts of Tamil Nadu such as KArur, Trichy, Madurai, Thanjavur, Tirunelveli, Rameshwaram, Tiruchendur and Kanyakumari. The facility serves to around 117 Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation buses, of which 98 buses for Karur and 19 buses for Vellakoil. Apart from this, the facility also handles 41 private buses, of which 19 buses for Karur and 21 buses for Vellakoil are being operated.[5]
Also, feeder services and intra-city shuttle services are being operated from this terminal to connect Central Bus Station, Erode Junction, Thanthai Periyar Government Hospital, Panneerselvam Park and other destinations of the city.[6]
