Solar Energy World is a solar energy company based out of Elkridge, Maryland, that installs residential solar systems in Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Florida, and Washington DC.[1] The company installed the SunPower system that powers the first ZeroHouse 2.0 on the East Coast in 2012.[2] The original headquarters was located in Jessup, Maryland, but was moved to Elkridge in November 2010.[1] Solar Energy World was founded in 2009, as the joint venture of the founders of HomeFix Corporation and Al Gleeson Electric Company.[1][3]

In 2018 Solar Energy World opened a new office in New Jersey.[4]

In 2019 Solar Energy World opened a new office in the Tampa, FL area.[5]

In 2011, one of Solar Energy World's employees was recognized among the first in the nation to pass the North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners Photovoltaic Technical Sales Exam.[6]

In 2012, the company installed the 40-panel SunPower solar power system on the first ZeroHouse 2.0 by KB Home on the East Coast, in Waldorf, Maryland.[2] This same year, Solar Energy World received the Angie's List Super Service Award,[7] and was listed as a Top 500 Remodeler by Qualified Remodeler Magazine (#53),[8] In 2019, Solar Energy World was awarded the #1 spot as the Top Solar Installer in MD, and Overall number 15 in the nation by Solar Power World.[9]

Educational initiatives[edit]

Beginning in April 2010, Solar Energy World held the "40 Days of Earth Day" video contest for children and teens. Participants created videos about what Earth Day meant to them, and posted them on YouTube for voting. The winner, Bryn Mawr Little School, was awarded a $2,500 grand prize.[13]

In 2012, the company again worked with schools for Earth Day events. Students from the Eagle Cove School[14] in Pasadena, Maryland and St. Joseph School in Cockeysville, Maryland watched an educational presentation, and built and raced solar powered model cars for a prize.[15]

Solar Energy World regularly holds Solar 101 Workshops[permanent dead link] http://www.solarenergyworld.com/for-home/attend-our-solar-workshop/ for homeowners to teach them about solar power, and the costs and incentives.[16]
