Somnath Chatterjee (born 7 January 1946) is a leader of Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation.[1] Before 2021, he is a central committee member of All India Trinamool Trade Union Congress, the trade union of TMC.
Political career
Somnath Chatterjee is an activist of Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) during the Naxal period. After Charu Majumder’s death, Somnath Chatterjee led a minor Naxal group in the name of Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist).[2][3][4] In 2003, Somnath Chatterjee led CPIML, merging with several minor Naxal groups and forming Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Class Struggle.[5][6][7] In 2008, he quit the Class Struggle group and joined All India Trinamool Congress.[8][9]
Joining CPIML LIBERATION
On 7th November 2021, Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation organised a mass convention in Asanson. In the convention, a huge number of leaders and activists of other parties joined CPIML Liberation. Leaders like Leba Chand Tudu, Badre Alam joined Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation. From this convention, Somnath Chatterjee decided to quit Trinamool Congress and joined CPIML Liberation.[10][11][12]
