Sonic Prime[3] is an upcoming Canadian-American animated children's streaming television series based on the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, co-produced by Sega of America, Netflix Animation, WildBrain Studios and Man of Action Entertainment.

The series is scheduled for a worldwide premiere on December 15, 2022 on Netflix.[4][5]

Premise[edit]

In the series, the fate of a multiverse "rests in Sonic's gloved hands". The show will have themes of self-discovery and redemption, and is aimed at children ages six to eleven years, as well as longtime fans of the series; it is stated to meet the "scale and scope" of other stories in the franchise.[6][7][8]

Voice cast[edit]

Production[edit]

Sonic Prime was officially announced in February 2021,[11] though the development of the series was initially revealed in a deleted tweet in December 2020.[8][12] The series will have 24 episodes overall.[6][13][7] Colleen O'Shaughnessey, known for portraying Miles "Tails" Prower since 2014, responded to a tweet on Twitter that she won't be reprising the role in the Netflix series.[14] In May 2022, it was announced that Deven Mack will be voicing the titular character for the series.[9]

One of the writers, Duncan Rouleau, stated that the series will be set in "the video game universe created by Sonic Team" and that "possible Sega crossovers are not ruled out."[15] In June 2021, concept art of the series was discovered on a now deleted artist's portfolio.[16] Duncan Rouleau later confirmed that Ian Flynn, who has written for the Archie, Boom and IDW series would be a consultant.[17]

Release[edit]

The first season of Sonic Prime, consisting of eight episodes, is set to release on December 15, 2022.[5][2]
