Soom (сум; "grief") was a Ukrainian doom metal band from Kiev. Formed in 2013, the band has released 2 studio albums, three splits, one single and one extended play throughout its short, six-year career. Most of the band's lyrics are about Ukrainian legends and folklore. In 2019, the band announced they had broken-up.

History[edit]

Soom was formed in Kharkiv, Ukraine in late 2013. The band was set up on the outskirts of projects that had been lying in the fountains of the Kharkiv fuel sludge scene since 2010. In 2016, after many changes in line-up, the golden line-up was formed, consisting of drummer Mykola "Amorth" Sostin, bassist Tomrer and guitarist-vocalist Alexey Kovalov. During 2013 and 2017, Soom recorded two splits with Pressor, Diazepam and Il, and released their first full-length album titled Nich na Polonyni in 2014, which was followed by an EP titled Zhakh i Ohyda in 2015 and a split with Vena in 2017. The band also appeared in the Electric Funeral Café compilation by Robustfellow three times. In 2018, Tomrer left the band and was replaced by Gerostrat. This lineup released their second album entitled Djebars on April 20 of the same year. Following the 2018 tour, the band announced its dissolution next year.
