Sophie Ann Douglas-Hamilton, Duchess of Hamilton and Brandon (née Rutherford; 8 December 1976) is a Scottish interior designer. She is the wife of Alexander Douglas-Hamilton, 16th Duke of Hamilton, Scotland's premier peer.
Biography[edit]
Sophie Ann Rutherford was born on 8 December 1976 in Northampton to Hubert Rutherford and his wife, Isabel (née Waters Taylor). Isabel Waters Taylor is the daughter of Major John Aveline Waters Taylor, who received the Military Cross in 1953 from Elizabeth II.[1] She works as an interior designer.
On 7 May 2011, she married Alexander Douglas-Hamilton, 16th Duke of Hamilton at the Kirk of the Canongate in Edinburgh.[2][3] They have three children together:
- Douglas Charles Douglas-Hamilton, Marquess of Douglas and Clydesdale (born 9 July 2012)
- Lord William Frederick Douglas-Hamilton (born 11 May 2014)
- Lord Basil George Douglas-Hamilton (born 4 April 2016)

Upon her marriage to Alexander Douglas-Hamilton, she gained the titles of Duchess of Hamilton, Marchioness of Douglas, Marchioness of Clydesdale, Countess of Angus, Countess of Lanark, Countess of Arran and Cambridge, Lady Abernethy and Jedburgh Forest, Lady Machanshyre and Polmont and Lady Aven and Innerdale in the Peerage of Scotland, and Duchess of Brandon and Baroness Dutton, in the Peerage of Great Britain.[4]
