Sofia Taloni, also known as Naoufal Moussa or Soufia Talouni (Arabic: طالوني صوفيا‎; born 27 April 1983, Al Hoceima), is a transgender Moroccan blogging and videographer.[1]

Biography[edit]

Sofia Taloni, by her birth name Naoufal Moussa was born on April 27, 1983 into a wealthy family in Al Hoceïma, parents Moroccans. She spent all her youth in Morocco. At 19, she studied at university in Rabat.[2]

Transgender, she left for Turkey in 2019 to perform cosmetic feminization surgery.[3][4][5]

Career on social networks[edit]

Sofia Taloni launched two trending concepts on YouTube #24for24, having accumulated more than 5 million views. She talks to famous personalities or with ordinary people. Sofia maintains good relations with other YouTubers and avoids entering into conflicts or rivalry with them.[6]

Sofia Taloni is one of the most famous influencers in Morocco; his videos are in Moroccan dialect. She was "raised as a star" by social networks Her certified Instagram[7] account is followed by more than 600,000 people until her suspension in April 2020.[8]

Conservative, Sofia's family did not encourage her at first to follow the path of YouTuber, a field still new in Morocco.

Affair Sofia Taloni[edit]

In April 2020, Sofia Taloni publicly called on her fans to denounce Moroccan homosexuals, during a live Instagram. His Instagram account was then suspended.[9][10][11][12] She later apologizes, her intention having been, according to her, to help normalize homosexuality, but doubts about her sincerity remain. The case is all the more serious as homosexuality is illegal in Morocco (unlike Turkey where the blogger lives).[13][14][15][16][17]

According to the New York Times[18] Sofia Taloni had just been sworn at because of her gender identity when, in a fit of rage, she published the incitement to report gay people, the effects of which were devastating.[19][20]

According to the sociologist Khalid Mouna who speaks in Liberation[21] Sofia Taloni tries to inflict on LGBT people the exclusion that she herself suffered (especially from her family). He underlines the fact that "she adopts the codes of her own detractors".

Returning to this affair in 2021 in a study on the representations of gender identity in Morocco, Anne M. Montgomery and Abderrahim El Habachi attribute to Sofia Talouni the desire to "expose the hypocrisy of Moroccan society by unmasking hundreds of “gay” people “She told women to download dating apps for gay men (like Grindr and PlanetRomeo)[22] and search for people they knew” In 24 hours, nearly 150,000 accounts were created in the Morocco. Nearly 100 people have been identified as homosexual. Some had to leave their homes and one of them committed suicide.[23]

This scandal was the subject of public debate in Morocco, and was the starting point for awareness campaigns in the form of live debates "Ajiw N'hadro" ("It's time to talk about it") organized by the collective of "Hors-la-loi du Maroc" The Moroccan police have opened an investigation for "incitement to hatred and discrimination" following these revelations of information on private life.[24]

In 2021, in reaction to the outing[25] of LGBT people to which Sofia Taloni had called, a book of testimonies concerning the discrimination and violence that these people suffer, entitled L'Amour fait loi, was published by La Sélénite editions.[26]

In 2021, Sofia Taloni files a complaint for attempted homicide against her after a burglary the site afrik.com hypothesizes a settlement of accounts in connection with the 2020 case[27][28]

In 2022, several Moroccan sites relayed her position deemed paradoxical in favor of a Muslim preacher who criticized the fact of representing positively in a television series[29] a category of marginalized women[30] dancers and singers sometimes on the verge of prostitution called shikha.[31]
