SourceHut is a collection of open source software development tools that provides hosting for Git and Mercurial repositories, a continuous integration service.[1], issue tracking, and discussions based on mailing lists. The software allows code repositories to be public, private, or unlisted. Unlisted repositories are only accessible to those who know the correct URL. Private repositories are only accessible to whom the owner has granted access.
History[edit]
SourceHut was first announced to the public on November 15, 2018, on the author's personal blog[2].
sr.ht[edit]
The flagship public instance for SourceHut is https://sr.ht/, which offers a mix of free and paid-for services to the general public. Payment is not required while the software is still in alpha development[3]. sr.ht offers both Git and Mercurial hosting for free, but requires payment to use the continuous integration service due to abuse by cryptocurrency mining[4][5].
As of February 2022, there are 27,000 registered users[6]
In February 2021, sr.ht started offering web and gemini hosting[7] through https://srht.site/.
In November 2021, sr.ht began offering an IRC bouncer service[8] built on soju and gamja that allows paying users to stay connected to IRC networks and save their chat logs in the cloud.
