Spadikam, the classic cult Malayalam movie released 25 years ago, is preparing to be re-released.[1][2][3][4] in cinemas[5][6][7][8] soon, named as Spadikam 4K.
The movie is currently at Prasad Corporation, Chennai, undergoing remastering works[9][10]. As the Mohanlal-starrer, which has reaped success at the box office, is getting a revamp[11]. The restoration process is being carried out by over 20 technicians[12]. Geometrics Film House is bringing the film to theatres[13]. A first-look poster has already been released[14][15] and the second series of posters will be released soon. Released in 1995, Spadikam was the year’s biggest hit and fetched Mohanlal a Kerala State Film Award for Best Actor.
The film is known for setting a template for several other mass entertainers that followed, most notably Narasimham, which also starring Thilakan and Mohanlal, featured a similar father-son relationship. Scripted by Bhadran from his own story, the film was shot by cinematographer J Williams and edited by MS Mani. It spawned three remakes—Vajram (Telugu), Veerappu (Tamil), and Mr Theertha (Kannada). The re-recording of the song Ezhimala Poonchola and other songs of the film was done[16]. The songs in Spadikam have been composed by SP Venkatesh.
