Spencer Brown (born July 23, 1997) is an American professional middle distance runner, who is host of the running-based YouTube channel known as The Athlete Special. He competed collegiately for Georgetown University and currently runs professionally for the Brooks Beasts Track Club.[2]
Running career[edit]
High School[edit]
Brown attended Wilton High School in Wilton, Connecticut where he competed in track and field and cross-country. In 2015, he was the Connecticut 1000-meter indoor and 800-meter outdoor state champion.[2]
Collegiate[edit]
Brown attended Georgetown University, where he ran the 800 metres leg for the Georgetown distance medley relay team which placed third at the 2017 NCAA Indoor Championships, earning him First Team All-American honors.[citation needed] In 2018, Brown placed second in the 800 metres at the Big East Indoor Championships and placed third in the 1,500 at the Big East Outdoor Championships. The following year, Brown placed 2nd in the 1,500 metres and the 4 x 800 metres relay at the Big East Outdoor Championships. In 2019, Brown broke 4-minutes in the mile at the BU David Hemery Valentine Invitational, running a time of 3:59.97. His PR of 3:39.94 at the 2019 Bryan Clay Invitational was the 11th fastest time recorded in the NCAA that year and only 2 seconds behind the fastest time of the year.[2][3]
Professional[edit]
After graduating from Georgetown with a degree in Sports Management in 2020, Brown began running professionally for the Brooks Beast Track Club, sponsored by Brooks Sports. He signed a special 1-year contract.[4][5]

Brown's YouTube Channel, The Athlete Special, details his life as a collegiate and professional runner and has 62.1k subscribers as of January 2021.[6][7]
