Spencer Charnas (born 14 November 1985) is an American singer, songwriter and actor. He is best known as the frontman and lead vocalist of the horror metal group, Ice Nine Kills. Spencer originally formed the band under the name, Ice Nine, with his middle school friend Jeremy Schwartz in 2000. Though Charnas' vocals are predominantly heavy to match his band’s music, he is well known for his clean vocals. He has also performed keyboard and guitar parts while maintaining his position as the band's frontman and becoming an icon of the abnormal concepts which he envisioned for his band, some of which have led to mainstream media retaliation.[2][3]
Early life[edit]
Spencer Charnas was born on November 14, 1985, in Swampscott, Massachusetts. He showed interest in the areas of metal and horror films introducing these concepts to his peers.[4]He is of Russian and Jewish descent.[5] While on a vacation with his family during his youth, he witnessed the circumstances of a potential murder[6], which inspired him to show interest in not only the gory side of the many slasher films he watched with his family as a child but also take a look into the psychological aspects of murder. While attending The Tower School, in the neighboring town of Marblehead, MA, he became friends with eventual co founding bandmate, Jeremy Schwartz. The group performed as a cover band for a number of years until they attended a Goldfinger concert at the Worcester Palladium in the fall of 2000. It was after this show that the two decided to form the band and write their own original compositions. The group toured as Ice Nine and promoted in a DIY fashion relentlessly for almost a decade before landing a record deal with Fearless Records, a subsidiary of Concord Music Group and Universal Music. At this time, the band underwent significant changes and became Ice Nine Kills.
Film Career[edit]
2021 will mark the debut of Charnas’ film career with starring roles in both the Dark Offerings as well as the indie horror action film The Retaliators, which also features members of Motley Crue, Papa Roach and Five Finger Death Punch.
