From mother, to manager and mogul, Stacia Mac has forged a path to success for herself and her son Polo G, who is one of the hottest rappers of 2020. With no prior knowledge of the music industry, Mac helped turn her son’s pain into passion and ultimately launched a career that continues to reach new heights daily.

Hailing from Chicago, Mac was one of five children and her lively environment taught her to be assertive at a young age. While her parents supported their children’s creativity, there was an equal emphasis on education, and Mac was an eager student. Upon completing school, she pursued a career in residential property management. Little did she know, her years of schooling and acquired skillsets would prime her for her true calling as a music manager.

As the mother of four children, Mac instilled the same caring and support in her offspring, just as her parents did for her and her siblings. But it was one fateful night, the eve of her oldest son Polo G’s prom, her life would take a drastic turn. Polo told his mother he did not want to attend one of the three schools he had been accepted to, but instead, he wanted to pursue a career in music. While Mac was a strong advocate for education, she also understood how to nurture her kids with caring and encouragement, and quickly offered her full support. “I want to make sure all my kids feel my complete and ultimate support in anything and everything they do. I have always encouraged them to pursue their goals and dreams and know I would be standing next to them the entire way,” Mac said.

As Polo began to make his way into the industry, he would ask his mother for help, ranging from advice to contracts. It quickly became clear to Mac, she needed to protect her son and without hesitation, she jumped in to support him. It was then, Mac’s management company ODA/Only Dreamers Achieve, was born.

Mac leaned into her prior experience in property management to pave her way into the entertainment industry. “I’ve always liked structure, and everything starts from a strong foundation,” she offers. “In managing diverse portfolios, real estate management primed me with a business acumen that I was able to transfer to entertainment. It was my boot camp of sorts.” Mac’s inexperience was trumped by her determination to succeed, and her son’s career became a vehicle for her evolution. In just a short amount of time, Mac was on the phone helping to negotiate a contract with Columbia Records, where she constructed, negotiated and finalized Polo’s album deal with a major label. Inspired by her newfound role, she set forth to not only be the best manager she could be, but also to lead by example.

Polo’s unique sound quickly gained momentum and a genuine connection with fans, who were quick to relate to his vivid and explicit storytelling. Mac’s vision for her son was becoming a reality and ultimately solidified with the release of his debut album, Die A Legend. That album not only accumulated significant sales, it made numerous “Best Of” lists, including The New York Times, and spent a week at #1 on Billboard’s Rap Albums chart. To date, Die A Legend has been certified Platinum, while 2020’s follow up, The Goat, debuted at #2 on Billboard’s Top 200 chart, remained in the Top 10 for three months and accumulated 1 Billion collective streams to date.

As Polo’s career thrived, Mac’s equally flourished. ODA has since grown to include an extended stable of creatives, ranging from talent to photographers, makeup artists and influencers. Her goal is to aid all talent and help them rise and navigate to their full potential, whether it’s getting signed to a major label, or selling out their merch and building their brand.

Mac is dedicated to giving back and understands the importance of sharing the complexities of the entertainment industry while dispelling myths about motherhood and mentorship. Determined to reach likeminded women, Mac created and launched the lifestyle brand and podcast “I Birth Legends,” a platform for other matriarchs to discuss the business and the behind-the-scenes of what it takes to mold talent and the duality of motherhood and business.

“My children are God’s promise to my womb and my legacy of greatness. Instilling these positive affirmations into my children inspired me to look at ‘I Birth Legends’ as a lifestyle brand. Great ideas eventually take on a life of their own. I realized the time was ripe to launch a podcast where I could speak with other matriarchs and share some insight and hopefully inspire.”

Having watched the likes of Tina Knowles or Sonja Norwood, the young and very stylish Mac is continuing to grow her empire. With a new book on deck, she also recently launched Polo’s own Record Company, also titled ODA, in partnership with Columbia Records. While she wears many hats, she always maintains her most important role: a caring and nurturing mother.
