Star Wars: Visions Presents is an American animated anthology spin-off series based on the shorts from Star Wars: Visions created for the American streaming service Disney+ and Hulu. Produced by Lucasfilm, the spin-off focuses on expanding the shorts from Visions, with each being a self-contained narrative produced by various studio, into series or films as creators at each studio are given free rein to re-envision the ideas of Star Wars, within the universe set in or inspired from, as they see fit, while receiving guidance from Lucasfilm's executive team.

It's first series, The Ninth Jedi, based on the shorts from Volumes 1 and 3 by Production I.G, will be released on August 5, 2026.[1]

Premise

Like Star Wars: Visions, the spin-off series follows a collection of adapted works from the animated short films presented "through the lens of the world's best anime creators" in the first volume that offers a new animated perspective on Star Wars.[2] Created outside of the constraints of the franchise's traditional stylings, the films provide creative freedom to each director and production studio, while maintaining fidelity to the themes and emotional identity of the Star Wars saga.[3] Additional volumes feature animation styles from various companies around the world.[4]

Production

During the April 2025 Star Wars Celebration, James Waugh announced that Star Wars: Visions would begin standalone spin-off series to tell longer form stories that began as shorts in the anthology series. The first Star Wars: Visions Presents series is The Ninth Jedi, after the Volume 1 episode "The Ninth Jedi" and the Volume 3 continuation "The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope", which was also announced at Celebration Japan.[1][5][6] The series later premiered at the Anime Expo on July 1, 2026,[7] and is scheduled to be released in its entirety simultaneously Disney+ and Hulu on August 5, 2026,[8] consisting of eight episodes.[9]
