Stergios Spanos (Greek: Στέργιος Σπανός; Chroupista, born in the 1790s) was a chieftain of the Greek War of Independence from Chroupista, Kastoria.[1]

Biography[edit]

Stergios Spanos was born in the late 18th century in Chroupista, Kastoria. He, like the rest of the Spanos family, was a tailor there. During the Greek Revolution, the town revolted and his brother, Evangelos, became the leader of the revolutionary forces. When he was killed, Stergios took over command, until he was himself also killed in the clashes with the Ottomans, after which his younger sister, Maria, also known as Spanomaria, took over in his stead.[1]
