The studio was founded by Glen Schofield, a former co-president of Call of Duty studio Sledgehammer Games, with finance from Korean video game company, Krafton (PUBG Corp).[2]

Three years after the studio was founded, Striking Distance Studios announced its first game, The Callisto Protocol, a sci-fi survival horror game in 2020.[3]

At Sony's State of Play showcase on June 2, 2022, Striking Distance Studios announced the release date of The Callisto Protocol as December 2, 2022.[4]
