Sujit Thapa (Nepali: सुजिट थापा छेत्री) ( born 27 April 1989) is a Nepalese Comedian, Actor, Comedian, Social worker, Anchor, and a Television Producer.[4] He is also popularly known as the "Maana", "Comedian Thapa" (based on character of his tele serial). Thapa has a significant following in Nepal and the Nepalese diaspora worldwide.[5][6] He is one of the biggest tele serial stars and the most respected public figures in Nepal.

Sujit Thapa began his acting career with a role in Meri Basai (2008). He has acted in numerous popular tele serials such as Meri Basai (2008), Bhadragol, Hakka Hakki, Bad Luck, ON/OFF and many other tele serials for which he received many awards and nominations. [7][8]

Personal life

Sujit Thapa was born in Changu Narayan Municipality, Bhaktapur.[9] His father, Durga Shasan Thapa, was a head in the Nepal Army while his mother, Mira Thapa, is a housewife.[10] He studied at Tribhuvan University in Kathmandu. Thapa married Madhuma Karki in Bhaktapur, Nepal, on 4 June 2005.

Career

Sujit rose to fame after his role in the comedy television show Meri Basai (2008), for which he gained a lot of popularity in the comedy field[11] He had previously worked on the Nepali show Meri Basai on Nepal Television.[12]

He participated in Nepal Television (Nepal)'s Meri Basai.[13] He also acted in the Nepal Television series Hakka Hakki.[14]
