The Sunda Empire (officially the Sundanese Empire - Earth Empire) is a fictional empire located between the Earth and the Sun.[1] Renny Khairani Miller posted about the empire on social media and attention grew among Indonesian Facebook users. He posted several pictures depicting people in imperial military uniforms.[2]
Responses
The head of the Bandung City National and Political Unity (Kesbangpol), Ferdi Ligaswara, stated that the Sunda Empire is not a registered community organization. This was backed up by a statement from the head of the Bandung City Ideology and National Insight Division, Sonic Bakhtiar.[3] The Governor of West Java, Ridwan Kamil, said that the movement had confused many people and asked that the population exercise common.[4] Former Minister of Youth and Sports of Indonesia Roy Suryo reported high-ranking Sundanese Empire officials to the police for allegedly changing the history of the UN and NATO on Wikipedia.[5][6]
Imperial claims
Sunda Empire official Rangga Sasana[7] claimed that the United States Pentagon and the United Nations were formed in Bandung. He also stated that the Sunda Empire had previously saved the planet from nuclear war and that Jack Ma and Bill Gates would eventually join him.[8] He said that Nusantara consisted not only of Indonesia but also of fifty four other countries, covering a region from Australia to Korea.[9]
Criminalization
On January 28, 2020, Ki Ageng Rangga was arrested by the West Java Regional Police in Tambun, Bekasi Regency.[10] The regional police accused three senior Sundanese Empire officials, Prime Minister Nasri Banks, Emperor Raden Ratnaningrum, and Secretary-General Ki Ageng Rangga, of spreading misinformation and inciting the public.[11]
