Sunshine Bakeries Pte. Ltd., more commonly known as Sunshine, is a Singaporean multinational baked-goods company. Founded in 1930, it is Singapore's oldest bakery chain.

History[edit]

Sunshine Bakeries was first established in Singapore in 1930 in the Geylang district, located on the eastern fringe of the Central Region of the country.[1]

The company located to its current Senoko plant and headquarters at Sembawang in 1993, and was at the time of its opening the largest bakery production plant in Asia, being able to producing 6,000 loaves of bread in 60 minutes.[1][2] It also has a second plant at the Boon Lay industrial area.

In 2019, Sunshine Bakeries announced that it would comply with Singapore's ban on hydrogenated oils (PHOs), an ingredient which is a major source of artificial trans fat, by June 2020.[3] It also added that 98% of their products at the time were already PHO-free.[4]

On 16 October 2020, in conjuction with World Bread Day, Sunshine Bakeries announced that it was giving away 40,000 wholemeal cream buns to various residential blocks, with each household being able to receive 4 buns each.[5]

Products[edit]

In 2020, Sunshine Bakeries introduced a Cream Bun that is filled with D24 Durian, a fruit that is popular in the region.[6]
