History[edit]

Super Pollo was established in 1974.

In 2006, the brand's San Vicente processing plant was burnt down but it was remodeled and reopened in 2007.[5]

Controversy[edit]

During 2019, the brand was involved in a political controversy in Chile, when Agrosuper decided to pull its brands' advertisements, including those of Super Pollo, from Chilean media, most notably on the CNN Chile and Chilevision television channels. Critics of the movement accused Agrosuper and businessman Juan Sutil, (who is not involved with Agrosuper or Super Pollo but who also retired advertisements from both channels) of anti-democratic censorship,[6] since CNN Chile carries a show named "Agenda Agricola",[7] which has from time to time shown news reports of anti-government protests. One of the main newspapers in Chile, El Universal, joined the controversy by criticizing Super Pollo, Agrosuper and Sutil for their move.[8]
