Superside, formerly Konsus, is a fully remote, tech-enabled creative services company founded in 2015 that provides businesses with on-demand design and creative support.
History
Superside was originally founded as Konsus in late 2015 by Norwegian entrepreneur Fredrik Thomassen (who serves as CEO) along with co-founders Haakon Heir, Jing Kjeldsen, Maximilian Miller, and Sondre Rasch. The startup launched in Oslo, Norway and positioned itself as an on-demand freelancing platform that connected companies with “top-talent” remote freelancers for various creative tasks.[1][2]
In 2016, Konsus was accepted into Y Combinator’s Winter 2016 accelerator batch, becoming the first Norwegian company to participate in the program.
Following Y Combinator’s Demo Day in 2016, Konsus secured a seed funding round of approximately $1.5–2 million USD. The round, completed in August 2016, included investments from Liquid 2 Ventures, Acequia Capital, and several angel investors.[3] An additional $3.8 million was raised in 2019.[4]
In September 2019, Konsus rebranded as Superside. The change reflected the company’s transition from offering general business support to focusing on specialized design services. As part of the rebranding, Superside expanded its offerings to include areas such as user interface and interaction design, motion graphics, and other multimedia services, positioning itself as a full-service design provider for enterprises.[4]
Funding
In August 2016, Konsus raised approximately $1.5 million USD in seed funding from angel investors and venture capital firms, including Liquid 2 Ventures and Acequia Capital. Combined with earlier contributions, the company’s total seed financing by the end of 2016 amounted to about $2 million USD.[5] During the same period, Konsus also received investment from the Slack Fund, an $80 million initiative established by Slack to support companies developing Slack-integrated services, making it among the first Slack bot startups to secure such backing.[6]
In September 2019, shortly after rebranding as Superside, the company raised an additional $3.5 million USD in seed funding. The round was led by Freestyle Capital, with participation from High Alpha, Y Combinator, and Alliance Ventures.[4]
In December 2021, Superside completed a $30 million USD Series A funding round to support its global expansion. The round was co-led by Prosus Ventures and Lugard Road Capital, with participation from existing investors such as the Slack Fund and Acequia Capital.[7]
