From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Supriya Sharma is the Chief Medical Advisor of Health Canada.[1][2][3] One of her roles is oversight of the COVID-19 vaccine approval process in Canada.[1]

Career[edit]

On 23 December 2020, Sharma promised that Nunavut would obtain 6,000 doses of the Moderna mRNA covax technology in what was to be the first shipment. Premier Joe Savikataaq was excited by the news, and urged his fellow Nunavummiut to get in line.[4]

On 5 March 2021, Sharma said that the single-dose COVID-19 prevention technology from Johnson & Johnson subsidiary Janssen Inc. "had been authorized for use for people over the age of 18 and was shown to be 66 per cent effective in preventing moderate to severe cases of" the illness. Health Canada had already authorized "a clinical trial" of the technology "in children aged 12 to 17". The Trudeau government "has already ordered 10 million doses of the Janssen vaccine with an option to purchase 28 million more, and expects the first 10 million doses to arrive before the end of the third quarter."[3]

On 7 March 2021, Sharma participated in a Cross-Country Checkup with host Ian Hanomansing on which radio programme listeners were invited to "ask me anything". She mentioned "boosters" for the technology.[5]

On 29 March 2021, Sharma supported the National Advisory Committee on Immunization's declaration of a pause for the administration of the mRNA technology to Canadians under the age of 55.[2][6]
