Supurna Malakar is an Indian actress known for her Indo-French Film “Burning Calcutta” for which she got an International award in New York City International Film Festival as the best actor. She has played a major role in critically acclaimed Film 'Abong Bisharjan', also has been part of many South Indian movies.

Early life and Education[edit]

Supurna Malakar (born in Kolkata, the Capital city of West Bengal, India) Supurna completed her schooling in Brahmo Balika Shikshalaya and then pursued her bachelor degree with sociology (hons.) from Indian Institute of Psychometry, Kolkata. Being a Bengali she is very fond of art and culture since her childhood. She is a trained Hindustani Classical singer from Patiala Gharana and later she learnt Kathak.

Acting and career[edit]

She started her career as a model in TV Commercials in her school days for major brands like Senco, Malabar Gold, Nalli, Airtel, Panasonic and many more. After finishing school she got an offer from Zee Bangla for her debutant role in ‘Kon Kanoner Phool’ (tv series). Megher palok is also another prominent tv show for Star Jalsha. She literally won hearts of many people by this show. After working for almost three years in Tele Vision, she started her journey for silver screen as Pakhi in Target Kolkata. She has been part of Hindi plays (both classic and modern), has played major role in classic hindi play “Jaat Hi Pucho Sadhu Ki” by Vijay Tendulkar, “Ashadh Ka Ek Din” by Mohan Rakesh and a modern play “Noy Nothing”.

Hobby[edit]

She loves reading, traveling and driving in her leisure.

Family[edit]

She belongs to an academic background - her father (Bipul Malakar) is a retired Professor from Jadhavpur University and Chancellor Nominee for North Bengal University. Her mother (Shobha Malakar) used to be a school principal. Her Sister’s name is Sarbani Malakar.
