Swami Vidyanand
Swami Vidyanand is an Indian Yoga Guru.

He was born in Datia, Madhya Pradesh, India on 1st July, 1959. Son of Harihar Goswami, a kathakar - an Indian mythological storyteller and Hindu scripture scholar. Swami Vidyanand was seeking spirituality from a very young age. He began practicing yoga from the age of twelve. At the age of eighteen, his father sent him to study under Swami Satyananda Saraswati, at the Bihar School of Yoga in India. He also received initiation and training with Swami Pitambara Peeth, Datia.[1].
Swami Vidyanand was anointed with the title of Swami at the age of sixteen, 1975, by Swami Pitambara Peeth. He was also given the title of "Sri" by Swami Satyananda Saraswati in 1981. From 1982 to 1984, he presented on the Doordarshan TV series, "Yoga Sadhana" in Jalandhar, Punjab.
In 1985, Swami Vidyanand represented Yoga and India at the International Trade Fair, Berlin (ITB).
Swami Vidyanand received the Bhaskar Award for his contributions in the field of Yoga, in India.
He taught yoga at the Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Delhi branch from 1990 to 2000. It is during his time here, at the Delhi Ashram, that he conducted research and created Transformational Yoga - a system that synthesizes traditional yoga teachings with the teachings of Sri Aurobindo and The Mother. It is a technique that combines asana, pranayama, mantra and meditation. A synthesis of various traditional branches such as Hatha Yoga, Kundalini Yoga, Raja Yoga, Bhakti Yoga and other traditional yogic systems in the light of Sri Aurobindo's Integral Yoga.[2]
Swami Vidyanand conducted Certificate Courses for Transformational Yogic Living from 2002 to 2004 at the University of Hong Kong[3], where he lived from 2002 to 2007. In 2004, he founded the first Sri Ma School of Transformational Yoga and Yoga Alliance Asia Pacific in Hong Kong[4]
He returned to India in 2007 and formed Yoga Alliance International[5]. In 2012, he founded the World Yoga Federation[6] and founded Meditation Alliance International[7] in 2014.
Presently, Swami Vidyanand lives and teaches yoga in Kottakuppam, Villupuram district, Tamil Nadu, near Auroville and Puducherry.
