Sydney Poniewaz (born 04 April 1995), known online as Sydsnap, is an American YouTuber, Vtuber and voice actress who is known for her comedic rants and reviews on anime and otaku culture. She frequently reviews Japanese media and products marketed to adults. She is affiliated with the Kadokawa-backed agency GeeXPlus [1]
YouTube Career[edit]
Poniewaz began uploading to her channel in 2013. Her videos mainly focus on Anime and Otaku culture[2]. Several of them have an adult focus[3][4].
Poniewaz has been a featured guest on many fellow Youtube channels including the Trash Taste[5], CDawgVA[6], and The Anime Man[7].
In August 2020, Poniewaz participated in a tournament hosted by Chess.com for anime YouTubers.[8] The tournament, called the Tournament Arc, was streamed on Twitch. Poniewaz was eliminated in the her first match 0-2 to fellow Anime Youtuber Daniel Rustage. Trash Taste co-host Connor Colquhoun, the self-described antagonist.[9]
Vtuber[edit]
The popular Vtuber group Vshojo announced the debut of Hajime Hime on November 24th, 2020[10]. Hime, played by Poniewaz, debuted on January 30th the following year. As of July 2021, Hime has 87,000 followers[11]. Of special note is that Hime's actress is known. It is generally uncommon for Vtubers to reveal their identities [12]. .
Initially, Poniewaz was passed over her audition with Hololive[13]. However, she was later picked up by Vshojo.
Voice Acting[edit]
Poniewaz began amateur voice acting in 2012 as the voice of Misato in Evabridged [14]. She would later debut as a professional voice actress in 2016 as the voice of Kaori Itami in the Visual Novel Ace Academy. She has since mainly been credited for her voice work in video games such as her work in Ethereal Enigma and Learn Japanese to Survive! Kanji Combat.
Personal life[edit]
Poniewaz accepted a proposal from Garnt Maneetapho Gigguk in April 2019[15]. The pair met in 2014 after Sydney voiced in Gigguk's Evangelion OVA production. During their time together as a couple they have lived in England and Thailand together while the both pursued their education and careers. In November 2019, Poniewaz and Maneetapho moved to northwestern Tokyo, Japan.
