Sylverina Damilola Olaghere (born in Surulere, Lagos State in 1987) is a project management professional, capacity building and programmes management expert. Sylverina is currently the Head of Projects and Programs and a Member of Executive Management Board at the Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (CVCNU) as well as the country officer (Nigeria) for the Association of African Universities (AAU)[1].[1]

Education[edit]

Sylverina attended Bols International school Lagos[2] and graduated to Queen’s College (1996-2003). Sylverina proceeded to earn her Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations in 2009 from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, and a master's degree in Peace and Conflict Resolution in 2017 from the National Open University of Nigeria. She also has licensed certifications that include ;Projects in Controlled Environments (PRINCE2Practitioner), Building and Leading Strategic Resilient Institutions of Higher Learning in a Disruptive World from SilverWest Training Academy Alberta Canada .

Career[edit]

During her university days, Sylverina Olaghere served as the OCVP Communications for AIESEC during their national congress at Obafemi Awolowo University in Nigeria. AIESEC is an international youth-run and led, non-governmental and not-for-profit organization that provides young people with leadership development, cross-cultural internships, and global volunteer exchange experiences. She was also a part of internship programs such as Project ASK(Answers, Solutions and Knowledge) that centered around HIV/AIDS sensitization programs across West Africa. She also had a brief stint at the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation between 2010 and 2011 for her mandatory youth service. Sylverina joined EGUNEC, an educational NGO under President Jonathan's Graduate Internship Scheme of the SURE – P program in 2013 and her leadership potential and project acumen were discovered quickly as one of the interns that performed remarkably. She was also recognized with a Presidential award for her diligent service. She was also invited to speak and train youths on employability skills, teamwork and team building skills, where she developed training materials on how said skills translate to the labor market with close to 7000- 10000 participants quarterly. She was a project manager for a six-month period at the Women Foundation of Nigeria.

Sylverina came into the CVCNU [3] as a project consultant on a project sponsored by Trust Africa on Revitalization of Higher Education in Nigeria. The outcome of that project led to a policy document that became a roadmap for organizations like Nigerian Universities Commission[4] and the like in governments’’ quest to improve higher education in the country. Because of her outstanding work, she was recognized awarded for her contributions towards a groundbreaking event and was offered a permanent position of Project Manager of the CVCNU and has since risen to the position of Head of Projects and Programs[5] in 2020. She has also been recognized with awards such as Most Efficient Staff in 2022 as part of the CVCNU.

Personal life[edit]

Sylverina Damilola Olaghere was born and raised in a catholic Christian home and is the oldest of four children. Her grandfather, Simeon Olaghere was the Baale’ of New Festac town. He was also a founding member of Afromedia PLC, one of the first and foremost advertising firms in Nigeria, He also served as the first president of the Outdoor Advertising Association of Nigeria. Sylverina enjoys watching football and travelling in her spare time.
