The company was co-founded as DebutCorp by Mani Kulasooriya and Shanil Fernando in 2007 as a Tech Incubator in partnership with Silicon Valley-based technology innovator Monvia. By 2008, the company had grown from 4 to 50+ associates working under the Latitude 655 brand[4], building solutions for Monvia clients like Yahoo! and Condé Nast. In 2012, the company rebranded to Leapset Engineering[5] and ventured into the product startup space, specializing in POS systems and restaurant technology development, launching its ‘CAKE’ platform[6] which was later sold[7] to Mad Mobile.

Sysco, the US-based foodservice company acquired a stake in Leapset Engineering leading to it becoming CAKE LABS in 2015[8]. Sysco completed the full acquisition of the company in 2017 resulting in its latest iteration, Sysco LABS[9] which has tech teams operating out of Colombo, Sri Lanka and Austin, Texas[10][11].
