T. Dilip[1][2] (born 1 September 1980), is a Indian fielding coach of the Indian national cricket team. He started his coaching career in 2004..
In 2025, BCCI relieved T. Dilip[3] of his coaching duties as part of a broader reshuffle of the men’s team support staff. This strategic move was intended to introduce new personnel ahead of the England Test series, following a review of the team’s performance during the transition to new head coach Gautam Gambhir.[4][5]
Early life and education
T. Dilip was born and raised in Hydrabad, India. He began playing cricket at an early age, participating in local tournaments with both tennis ball and leather ball cricket during his formative years. He used to tutor students in mathematics to fund his cricket training in his initial days.[6]
He enrolled in the BCCI Level-1 coaching program in 2004 and later completed Level-2 in 2007, marking his entry into professional coaching.
Coaching career
In 2009, he started working as an assistant fielding coach for the Deccan Chargers in the Indian Premier League, under baseball coach Mike Young. The same year, he joined the National Cricket Academy as a specialist fielding coach.
During his tenure at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), Dilip worked with many young cricketers. In 2021, he was appointed as the fielding coach of the Indian national men’s cricket team.[7]
During the 2023 World Cup, he started this idea of giving out post-match fielding awards to recognize standout performances. he began it about four months before the tournament, he started announcing the winners in the dressing room. It really boosted team morale and made fielding feel just as important as batting or bowling. Some of the behind-the-scenes clips even went viral. It definitely played a part in India’s overall success.[8]
