Chaudhry Muhammad Tahir Munir Cheema (Urdu: طاہر منیر چیمہ; born on 25 June 1964) is a Pakistani businessman and politician who has served as Tehsil Nazam of Sangla Hill Tehsil from 2005 to 2010 as an independent candidate. Born into a middle-class family of Marh Balochan, Tahir Munir is the eldest son of Munir Ahmad Cheema, an officer of Federal Board of Revenue. He is the elder brother of Tallat Munir Cheema, who also contested for nazam.

Early Life and Education

Tahir Munir was born in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan on 25 June 1964. His father, Munir Ahmad Cheema, was an officer in the FBR and his mother was a housewife. Tahir Munir spent his early days in wahdat colony. At the age of 15, a tragedy happened and his father was murdered by his rivals. He has one younger brother, Tallat Munir Cheema, who is a farmer and politician by profession.

Tahir Munir received his early education at home and then completed his matriculation from Vanike Tarar. After matriculation, he did his intermediate from Forman Christian College, Lahore. After that, he started his graduation at Forman Christian College, Lahore, but he never completed it and returned to his home in Kot Bhaga.

After returning to his village, he started to look after his father’s farms and business. He achieved success in every aspect of his life due to his hard work and faith in what he was doing.

Political career

Tahir Munir Cheema belongs to a political family. Although his father never contested any election, his uncles were actively involved in politics and used to contest local government elections. He started his political career as a student. First of all, he contested as president of the student union in Sangla Hill. In 2005, when Sangla Hill gained the status of tehsil, Ch Tahir Munir Cheema represented his family and was elected as an independent candidate for local government. Due to his personality and his family background, he was able to defeat a strong candidate of the ruling party, Pakistan Muslim League (Q). This was a great success for Tahir Munir’s politics.

After the 2008 Pakistani general election Tahir Munir Cheema joined hands with Pakistan Peoples Party because the leadership of Pakistan Peoples Party assured him to work for the general public. This gave him another three years to serve his public. After his tenure, he was not able to continue with the PPP’s leadership due to a clash of political agendas.

Afterwards, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf raised the slogan of bringing revolution in Pakistan, and PTI’s delegation assured Tahir Munir Cheema to serve the general public, which was his main goal of politics. So, in the 2013 Pakistani general election, he decided to join Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf. Tahir was appointed PTI’s deputy district president of Nankana Sahib District.

He has earned the hearts of his public, and many opponents are inspired by his faith to work for the welfare of the public. Due to his corruption-free tenure, he has been able to earn a name in politics and create a large number of supporters. Many writers and media persons have given testimony about his uprightness.
