Tanmaya Bhatnagar (Hindi: तन्मया भटनागर) is an Indian singer and songwriter best known for her quaint vocals and delicate acoustic guitar work. Bhatnagar rose to prominence with her single Kya Tum Naraaz Ho? for which she has received praise and recognition from the Oscar-winning music maestro A. R. Rahman.[1][2] She made her Bollywood playback singing debut with the romantic drama Comedy Couple as a composer, lyricist and singer.[3]

Early life and education

Bhatnagar was born in Nashik. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication design from Pearl Academy. During her study period, she started a film project called Supriya, My mother to explain her memories of growing up with her mother suffering from Schizophrenia. She initiated a creative approach to change the general attitude of society towards Schizophrenia patients and also working to raise mental health awareness.[4][5] She's lived in Chennai, Gangtok and Rajasthan due to her father's commitments in the army. She stated during the interview with Rolling Stone (India) that:

In my adolescence, I went through a lot of emotional turmoil because I had started to lose my mother to schizophrenia. But somehow that also made me dive into music. It saved me and kept me connected to my mother somehow.[1]
