Tarzan & the Beachwaiters is a Dutch band from Zeeland, the Netherlands, formed in 2022. The group is known for its energetic blend of surf punk, alternative rock, and comedic lyrics.

History

Tarzan & the Beachwaiters originated as a hardcore punk band called Bad Ragaz. The founding members, including Niels (vocals) and Sebastiaan (bass guitar), worked together at the beach in Vrouwenpolder, Zeeland. While playing loud and raw punk shows, they felt the urge to write more accessible songs alongside their hardcore material. Inspired by the coastal vibe of their workplace, they began experimenting with alternative rock and surf punk.

In 2020, they released their first self-titled EP, Tarzan & the Beachwaiters, marking their transition from pure hardcore punk to a blend of surf punk and alternative rock. The EP laid the foundation for their energetic yet catchy sound that would define their later releases.

In March 2021, the municipality of Middelburg announced plans to demolish the local skatepark WIM in Middelburg. Motivated by the threat to the skatepark, the band wrote a protest song SK8 M8 to raise awareness and support for preserving the skatepark. The song gained national attention when it was picked up by the Dutch radio station 3FM. This exposure helped the band reach a wider audience and increased their national profile.

In early 2022 the band released the singles, I Know CPR and Magic Seaweed. These songs were followed by their full-length debut album, Wack Lines, Salty Dreads & Thanks For All The Stitches, featuring ten tracks that fuse punk energy with surf-inspired riffs and alternative rock hooks.

In September 2023, they released the double single Let's Go Surfin which includes the tracks Let's Go Surfin, Pussy Excuses, and Dutch Waves (Live at De Piek). That same year, the band joined the Propronde and expanded their live shows further into Belgium.

In 2025, Tarzan & the Beachwaiters released the single Buitenbenen, which they wrote for the Regiosongfestival, representing the province of Zeeland. The song received positive attention from local media and marked their shift to incorporating Dutch-language lyrics.

Musical style and influences

Tarzan & the Beachwaiters’ sound is defined by raw surf punk guitar riffs, driving rhythms, and a DIY punk spirit mixed with alternative rock elements. Influences include surf punk bands, Dead Kennedys, The Offspring, FIDLAR, and other alternative rock acts.

Performances

Tarzan & the Beachwaiters have played numerous shows across the Netherlands and Belgium. Memorable performances include Surfana (2022), Indiburn (2022), Vestrock (2025), and the Propronde tour in 2023.
