Tati Westbrook (born February 14 c. 1982)[1] is an internet personality[3] and make-up artist.[4]
Entrepreneur[edit]
YouTube[edit]
Westbrook, a former image consultant turned makeup artist, created her YouTube channel GlamLifeGuru, later renamed Tati, on November 7, 2010.[5] When she started out, she knew little about cameras and editing. "At first, when I sat down to edit, it would be a twelve hour process," Westbrook recalled in 2015. "Beauty tutorials still take a long time, but I've been able to get this down to three hours."[6]
According to Newsweek she is "widely considered to be a progenitor of YouTube’s beauty scene" and "the mother of the YouTube beauty community.[7] In a 2016 interview with Tubefilter, Westbrook revealed that fragrance and cosmetics house Lancôme had invited her to Paris. She said she had a mobile app developed to help build her brand, but "authenticity is key" for her audience.[8]
She primarily focuses on make-up and beauty reviews, tips, and tutorials.[9] At her channel's peak, it amassed a following of over 10.6 million subscribers. During a dispute with former protégé James Charles in May 2019, she gained more than four million subscribers within a period of a week, and Charles lost more than three million subscribers in four days.[7][10][11] As of May 21, 2019 she had 10 million subscribers to her YouTube, making her the 969th most-subscribed channel.[12]
Halo Beauty[edit]
In February 2018, Westbrook founded and launched her own company called Halo Beauty Inc.[13] which sells vitamin supplements.[14][15]
Westbrook makes an estimated $1.3 million a year between YouTube and Halo Beauty.[16]
Personal life[edit]
In 2017, Tati married James Westbrook, who regularly appears in her YouTube videos.[17] She is of Latvian ancestry.[18]
