Tau Alpha Omega (TAΩ, and also known as Freeman) is a service fraternity and sorority founded at Central Mindanao University on September 21, 1970. This was organized by Jorge R. Madlos[1][2][circular reference], Samuel M. Simbajon[3], Manuelito D. Ravelo, Presco B. Allawan, Virgilio Pacana, Samuel C. Acilo[4], Joseph M. Pitogo, Eliseo A. Leyes, and Sabiano A. Cafe. Their aim is to organize an organization that is free from slavery. Tau Alpha Omega Freeman existed because of its strong foundation in helping and serving its Members, Community, Schools, the Philippines, and its People.

History[edit]

Prior to the existence of this organization, all Fraternities and Sororities in Central Mindanao University Musuan, Maramag, Bukidnon were adopting paddles or any body contact as a form of slavery. They required their neophytes or pledges to render services or any compliance for them to finish benefiting from their matters.

After a few days, they named their newly organized group "FREE STUDENT SOCIETY". This was founded on September 21, 1970. Since then, this organization do not make their pledges and render services to members of the organization during the pledge-ship stage.

During that year, the Free Student Society at CMU branched out into nine other chapters in Visayas and Mindanao before becoming a non-class organization because it was only a society. Never the less, its Constitution and by-laws are similar to those of a fraternity. The Free Student Society, which has been changed into a Greek word as "Tau Alpha Omega Omega" with members known as "Freeman" was born by the courage of the organization to be recognized and be a class organization.
