Teal Drones, now part of Red Cat Holdings, is an American-based developer and manufacturer of unmanned aerial vehicles, including the Golden Eagle UAV series. The company has customers in North America, and throughout Europe who use its vehicles for reconnaissance and public safety.

History[edit]

Teal Drones was founded by Thiel Fellow, George Matus in 2015 in Salt Lake City, Utah. The company's first products were its Sport and Teal One consumer drones, the first of their kind to be manufactured in the United States. The company has since grown into the enterprise and government sectors with the Golden Eagle drones, being a U.S. government-approved drone designed for reconnaissance, public safety, and inspection applications. Teal's open and modular platform allowed a critical mass of applications to be developed and integrated for next-generation capabilities. Partners actively integrating technologies with Teal include Autonodyne, Tomahawk Robotics, Dronelink and Skyward.

On August 27, 2020, the Defense Department's Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) approved small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS) made by 5 different manufactures including Teal Drones, thus allowing military units to purchase and use in the field.[1]

On July 13, 2021, Red Cat Holdings announced they had signed a definitive agreement to acquire Teal Drones,[2] later closing the acquisition on Sept 1st 2021.[3]

On Oct 24 2021, Red Cat announced its TEAL Drones subsidiary opened a new 13,000 sq ft (1,200 m2) U.S.-based manufacturing facility located in Salt Lake City.[4]

On April 4, 2022, a NATO Member Country placed an order of 15 Golden Eagle drone units, plus spares and training and committed to deploy them in Ukraine. [5]

Facilities[edit]

Teal One[edit]

On October 10 2018, Teal Drones had announced the launched of their flagship drone - Teal One. It's a ready-to-fly drone that has a top speed of 60 mph with a 15-minute flight time, that features a modular design, making it easy to replace parts. The drone is controlled right from the users smartphone with an app called Teal Flight, that also offered five different flight modes, including one-handed and voice control.[6]

Communication with the drone uses WiFi 802.11b/g/n that offers a 600-foot (180 m) range with 200ms latency and a 720p live video stream.
