Tejasvi Surya is youngest Member of Parliament in 17th Lok Sabha from the Bangalore South (Lok Sabha constituency).[1][2]

Before the 2019 Indian general election, he was involved in politics for the ruling party. He was an active member of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and General Secretary of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha. A lawyer by training, he represented multiple BJP party leaders, including the editor of PostCard News Mahesh Hegde, and helped Ashok Haranhalli investigate Karnataka BJP supremo B. S. Yeddyurappa in a 2019 corruption case.[3] He was also in charge of social media campaign for BJP during the 2018 Karnataka Legislative Assembly election.[4]

Controversy

Tejasvi Surya, in his social platform, fueled several controversies remarking abusive comments against Islamic women.[5][6]

2019 Lok Sabha Elections

His candidature for the 2019 Indian general election from Bangalore South Constituency was announced by BJP on 18 April 2019, surprising poll watchers by being selected over Tejaswini Ananth Kumar, wife of the longtime MP Ananth Kumar and choice for Karnataka BJP.[3] He won the elections by defeating B. K. Hariprasad of Congress by more than 300,000 votes.[7]
